I stopped by at Little Penang Street Market last Sunday. I have not dropped in since a year ago (exactly), thanks to my new-born who has just turned 10 months old recently, it was just too inconvenient to bring him along to shop and explore around the street market, yeah…. put the blame on him, I am a good excuse-finding mummy huh~  I really missed those good times exploring beautiful crafts and handmade there as I will always be surprised by their new crafts every month!!!!

Just some background about Little Penang Street Market, it is Penang’s premier street market which take place in Upper Penang Road every last Sunday of the month, it is run by a committee of volunteers under the auspicious of the non-profit Penang Arts Council. This month, July, marks the 3rd anniversary ever since Little Penang embarked this street market in 2006. Coincidentally, it is also George Town’s 1st Anniversary being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The street market not only sell handmade, they also showcase ….

Cross Stitch: Mermaids Of The Deep Blue

Mermaids Of The Deep Blue
Two daughters of the sea swim gracefully toward treasure lost.
Their tails sparkle like diamonds and emeralds.
Their hair flows around them like veils of silk.
They are real and fairytale combined to become beauties of the deep.

Recently, my eldest sister, Estee, just finished one of her cross-stitch projects, “Mermaids Of The Deep Blue” and wish to share it in Craft Passion. She bought this Mirabilia pattern online which came with a photo and a color chart. She spent about 3 months to get it done, working 2 hours per day in average. She has been doing cross-stitch since years ago, I lose count but I think should be more than 20 years. She has quite a number of fine-crafted cross-stitch works in her collection and I am pleased that she lets me show them here in near future. I am a big fan of her, the most precious one among her collection would be the famous fine-art – “The Kiss” which was originally painted by Gustav Klimt. Watch out for Estee’s gallery soon!!!!

Continue from Part 3: Interior Beading

Once you have the shoes faces filled up with the beads pattern, you are ready to have them made into a nice pair of Peranakan Kasut Manek (beaded shoes). If you have a local shoe-maker who knows how to make Peranakan Kasut Manek (beaded shoes), you can always get them to measure your feet. If you can’t find a shop that you can personally go there to have your feet measured, you can always follow this tutorial to trace out you feet, get the size and send it to the Peranakan Kasut Manek maker.

Basically, all you need to measure ….

Nur Salam Fundraising Night

charity night1 Sumay holding up “The Dazzle” during the auction

I am back in Penang again after spending a weekend in Kuala Lumpur for the Nur Salam Fundraising party….. which took place on the 11th of July 2009 at Carlos @ Pavillion. It was a successful fundraising party and raised more than RM105,000.00 for the charity. I had a good time enjoying the atmosphere of the party with my mum, sister and a friend. Among the events in the party, we watched performances from rock stars, gender illusionist shows, jokes, auctions and Sumay (as Mistress Mara) spanking people to raise funds… etc, but nothing beats the moment when “The Dazzles” was successfully bidded. BRAVO (round applause, please)!!!!

The auction event started at around 10:30pm and there was an abundance of items in the auction list, among them were 5 rounds on a Porsche Le-Mans at Sepang F1 circuit, ….

July 10, 2009 | Handbag, Highlight

May be you were wondering why I just showed you only detailed depictions of “The Dazzle” in my previous post and did not write down the process…. Not my style huh~ you are right…. and I am doing it here!!!!

Blue Flower Frame Clutch Bag2About a month ago, I was having a chat with Sumay, my dear friend, via facebook. She was telling me that she is going to help raise funds for a charity with a party. She was extremely excited about it and told me it is for Rumah Nur Salam which shelters street and stateless children in Kuala Lumpur. She asked me if I wanted to contribute my craft as one of the auction items in this event… “Yes, why not!!!” I replied immediately, it would be so meaningful to contribute my handmade craft for such a good cause.  So, we discussed over the net, brain storming which type of craft should I do, what kind of design and how to make it worth the value in the auction etc…. Since my expertise is in handbag or purse-making, especially ball clasp closure frames clutch, we decided to go with it. This brain storming session for the handbag design took a few days and not only involving Sumay and I, ….
