Today is the 7th days of Chinese New Year!!!! It is everybody’s birthday and we are officially 1 year older in our lunar age. Traditionally, we get together on this day to toss the colorful raw fish salad (yee sang, 鱼生) and make wishes for continued wealth and prosperity. The higher we toss, the better we will get
I made this treats holder to serve little treats during Chinese New Year. Every kids visited my house during this festive season likes it…. I mean the treat!!! I made another bigger one to put some mandarin oranges as well. To my surprise, it can also be a King’s crown if the fold is made deeper.

I saw this method quite sometimes ago and amazed on how the holder was transformed from, it was ….

Sewing Tutorial: Simple Chinese Ornament

Chinese celebrates Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year for 15 days. Today is the 4th day of Chinese New Year and traditionally we don’t visit friends and relatives during the 3rd and 4th day since it is believed that we could get into argument or bad luck if do so. I was pretty much relax at home eating cookies, cakes, mandarin oranges and the left-over from the eve (chú xī) [opppsss... hope I won't gain too much weight during this festival :p] Well, I did another simple sewing of an ornament to decorate my pussy willows using silk and red packet. Unlike the previous Locker Hook Ornament, the process to sew 1 of this simple ornament took only about 10 minutes. If you make a few in one shot, the average time spend on them will be shorterned.
This design is not confined to only Chinese New Year ornament, you can modify it to suit any festive ….

Sewing Tutorial: “Wheel Of Fortune” Coaster
February 5, 2010 by Craft Passion

Chinese New Year is approaching, 14 Feb 2010…. same day as Valentine’s day, this year we have double celebrations!!! Woo Hoo!!! I am so excited as this is the most happening festival in a year.
This year, I made most of my Chinese New Year decorations. To start it off, I sewed a few simple coasters by using Chinese Silk. Criss-cross 4 pieces of folded rectangle silks and sew them into circular shape with bias binder. Insert a fortune note in it to become a fortune coaster…. just like the fortune cookies
Chinese Silk is colorful, soft and shiny like satin but it frays excessively. I would suggest to give extra seam allowance to accommodate the frays.
Remark: I made these coasters out of the inspiration from the Criss-Cross Coaster that I stumbled upon while browsing through the web.
Let see how I made these 4″ diameter “Wheel of Fortune” Coasters: ….

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!! May 2010 bring luck, joy and health to you and your loved ones!!!!
I am writing this on the day of Christmas Eve…. where has the days gone? It was like yesterday since I started making kanzashi Christmas Trees, then glittering some stars, wire wound some stars, followed by making holly berries, wreath, crochet Christmas Tree, plus some other crafts that I didn’t published here!!! A month passed by in just a blink of an eye, now, I am making my last Christmas craft for the year.

I made 2 Christmas Gift Stockings for my kids with their names on them and they are my last minute sewing projects. I thought I can never make it for the dead-line since I have to stay at home and take care of my son 24/7 whose nanny is on a 1-week emergency leave. With my determination and 4 “very” late-nights sewing, I made it!!! Yawn…. I really need a good rest after this Christmas, perhaps hibernate until 2010, lol… Just kidding, I will still continue making handicrafts but in slower pace. Don’t forget that I have another giveaway draw in early ….

The closer it gets to Christmas the more tense I get… Just wish that I have 2 more hands and 1 more brain to help me out. I Still have a bundle of s that need to be done, including the Gift Socks for my daughter and son which I just put them into my to-do list. Anyway, I work well with tension, the more I get, the harder I work… but it is not good for my health, I have been weak recently, especially during weather change. For my 2010 new year’s resolution, guess I have to lower down my target to suits a normal human’s ability.
This is an amigurumi type of crochet Christmas Tree. Quite simple to make.
It consists of 3 parts: ….

Tutorial: Making A Christmas Wreath
December 19, 2009 by Craft Passion
in Highlight, Occasions, Tutorial
I don’t usually put up a wreath during Christmas but this year I have to, to substitute my 6′ Christmas Tree which I put up every December. My son is at an age where he is curious about everything, so I suspect he will literally pull everything down, including the tree itself. No way to risk his life with broken baubles as I know he will definitely get to the tree even if I place it at a height beyond his height. He is quite the climber too!!!!
In early December, my 6 year old daughter asked me ” Mum, when are we going to put up our Christmas Tree?” because she noticed that I did not bring her to buy new decorations. “Dear, we can’t put up a Christmas tree this year” and told her the reason above. She accepted the fact with disappointment. Oh no… my heart broke as I knew that she loves December because it is the month that she can decorate the Christmas Tree and see the tree lighted up during the night. So, I decided to make some changes by transferring the decoration and light from the tree to wreath.
I finally got them done, hung it up and lit it up too. Seeing both my daughter and son so happy to see the wreath, made me even happier
I also designed and made 2 of the ornaments for these wreath, crochet Christmas Tree (pattern will be given in upcoming post), Holly Berries (instructions are at my previous post). Besides that, I refurbished my old candy cane and jingle bell ornaments by glittering them.
If you wish to do your own wreath from scratch, these are the steps: ….
