Valentine Scrapbooking with Washi Tape

I have some awesome washi tapes and tags from Downtown Tape lying on my desk, so I made a scrapbook project for this upcoming Valentine’s Day. It is so fun and colorful to work with washi tape, basically, this is a fail-proof project. Even kids can do this for their parents

Working with washi tape is easy, the tape is tacky and at the same time it is adjustable. If you stick it at the wrong position, simply lift it up and stick again immediately. No trace of glue line left behind and it won’t hurt your paper as well. The colorful prints and patterns are great for decorations too.

With the template I have prepared for this project (in pdf format), just download it and print it on your plain card-stock and you are good to create a pretty pinkish Valentine’s Scrapbooking Display with the tutorial on next page.

DIY Embossed Washi Tape

Washi Tape was on the heat in scrap booking and paper crafting world a while ago. I have been loving this translucent effect of the washi tape when I first saw it… never bought one because I wanted to make it myself. I saw many tutorials on how to make it, I find the tissue paper and double-sided tape version most appealing to me. I am not repeating what other has done, I want it to be something special, so, I embossed it to become a dimensional washi tape. I think it is not available in the market yet but probably later after they see this tutorial… lol…

So… what is Washi Tape actually? Washi (和紙) paper was originated from Japan and it is commonly known as thin handmade paper made from rice, wheat or fiber from tree. Washi paper is generally strong and translucent, it is vastly used as shoji in Japanese Tatami room. The shoji recalls me to the movie scene that the ninja used to wet his fingers with his saliva then poke the washi paper on the shoji to peep into and spy… Printed washi paper is used in gift packaging and sometimes as origami paper.

In short, washi tape is a printed washi paper that has sticky backing, to stick on card, gift box, envelope, furniture, toys, etc., be it for decoration, for organization, for labeling, you name it. Some people do call washi tape as tissue paper tape or printed masking tape or vice versa, I think they are all almost the same. Need more ideas on what to do with washi tape? DIY Shamrock Bokeh From Dew Drops

Happy St Patrick’s Day to whom who celebrate!

Remember the beautiful morning dew drops at the tips of the wheat grass I woke up to see and adore 3 years ago? Which I took the photos with my little point-to-shoot compact camera? Recently, I planted some wheat grass that meant for an upcoming Easter cum St Patrick’s Day craft. Again, I woke up to see some beautiful dew drops setting at the tip of the grass, so pretty that I can’t resist to take some closed-up photos on them.

Overs the years, I have earned and saved enough to invest in an affordable and good DSLR camera. Now, I am back to take another round of dew drops photos. Previously, I need to do some photo editing to crop on a big photo in order to show the tiny dew drops. But today, I am not just able to take a real closed-up macro photo but also able to have a lovely bokeh effect out of the dew drops light reflections with my Canon EOS 60D. After a few shootings and reviewing the greenery photos, an idea struck through my mind that I can do it with shamrock bokeh since St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and also to keep my promise, one stone two birds, why not!

One last thing before you jump to the tutorial, look what I have found in the wheat grasses… a tiny little visitor resting on the wheat grass. Ok, this is a cropped photo, my economical macro lens can’t get so close to it yet. May be I will invest in an expensive professional macro lens if I am going for the assignment of tiny world photography that I love to do. Who knows, may be another 3 years from now…. lol
