Big apple amigurumi

The idea of creating an amigurumi apple crochet pattern hit me instantly while I am cutting up the apples for the apple crumble muffins. If you’ve read my delicious apple crumble muffins recipe, you will notice a red apple in the photo, but that is the small apple I got the pattern from a book. I want something bigger, something like the size of a big Granny Smith Apple, juicy and delicious, so I came out with this design adapted from the small crochet apple pattern.

I am super excited to share this excellent apple crochet pattern with you. Not only that the Amigurumi Big Apple is great as a piece of home decor, but I also find that they are great to make into a pincushion.

This real looking big apple amigurumi was crochet using a fingering/baby yarn, and the size is 3″. You may change to bulkier yarn weight to make a larger apple or using finer lace thread to make a smaller one.

If you want to add some character to the amigurumi apple, here are a few ideas. For further development on this big apple amigurumi pattern, you may:
1. add a worm with its head sticking out from the apple.
2. Add eyes and a smiling mouth with a rosy cheek for a kawaii look.
3. Use rainbow color yarn to create a rainbow apple.
Do you have other ideas to add to the list?

Insert the needle again from a different point and back to the bottom. Don't pull the yarn too tight so that you can see which yarn to pick later. Repeat this 2 to 3 times.pic.11

Pull the yarn one after one to sink the stem into the body. This will make the top and bottom indentation for the apple.
Knot the yarn. Hide the knot and yarn inside the apple.big apple amigurumi crochet patternpic.12

This is how the bottom looks like.pic.13

Made it with thicker yarn and size H hook and even thicker yarn and size N hook. Still so cute. Thank you for easy-to-follow pattern.

Поздравляю с Днем Победы! Hello, Thank you for sharing this pattern. I was wondering what I would need to do to make the apple larger, like 12 inches?

Good question, Vesna, sorry to say that you will need a new pattern to make the apple that big, for instant, add stitches and more round to blow up the size.

Hi! I’m fairly new to crocheting and thought this would be a fun easy project I could do to get some practise. I’m having some trouble with the mentioned “sc2tog inc” however. I have searched youtube and only managed to find decreases for a single crochet two together. Am I misunderstanding how this is used?

Hi Kristin, there is a typo in the abbreviation, it should be “2sc inc”. I have got it corrected. Thank you for pointing out.
