About Danz The Crochet Dog

Danz, who stands 12 inches tall, is drawn to creativity and originality, making him one of the best at his job.

During the day, you’ll see him in his art studio or the comforts of his sunroom, waving his paintbrush against a blank canvas and creating wonderful art pieces for his clients. Sometimes, he’ll step outside to scenic places to get inspiration for his work.

As the weekend approaches, you’ll find Danz out in the streets or at parties, releasing his cooped-up energy by interacting with street dancers. He enjoys grooving to good music and socializing with like-minded friends.

How To Crochet Danz

Even though this free crochet dog pattern is categorized as an intermediate-level project, it’s still possible for beginners to try out this crochet pattern.

Here is why making this amigurumi dog is not as difficult as you think:

  • You’ll only need to know how to work two basic crochet stitches: Chain stitch and Single crochet stitch.
  • Three simple crochet techniques are involved: 2sc increase, Invisible Decrease, and Magic Ring/Magic Circle.

Although the techniques may seem like a lot, they are all used over and over again in the pattern. So, once you get the hang of the method, this crochet dog pattern will be a breeze.

If you’ve ever made a stuffed animal from our Animal Wildlife Collection, you’ll have no trouble following this free crochet dog pattern.

If you need a refresher or an introduction to the basic stitches and crochet amigurumi, learn more about them in our:

How To Assemble Crochet Dog

Essentially, you will first need to crochet the different parts individually. Follow the instructions to individually crochet the body, head, eye patch, ears, arms, legs, and tail of this puppy amigurumi pattern.

We recommend stuffing each part evenly for a firm and defined shape. Remember to leave a long tail at the end of each piece, as instructed, so it’s easier to sew the pieces together.

Take note to install the safety nose to the head and sew the paw pads to the legs with a tapestry needle before stuffing the head and legs.

Once all of the parts have been completed and stuffed, sew them together to complete the project.

  1. Sew the eye patch, buttoned eyes, and ears to the head.
  2. Sew the head to the body of the crochet dog.
  3. Finally, sew the arms, legs, and tail to the body.

How To Assemble

  1. Crochet and stuff the following Amigurumi Dog parts: Body, Head, Ears, Eye Patch, Arms, Legs with paw pads, and Tail.
    parts for crochet dog amigurumi
  2. Sew the eye patch and eyes to the head as follows:
Mark the eye position at Round 17, 14 stitches apart, using the nose as the middle line of the eyes. Position and pin the eye patch with the center point aligned with the left eye marking. Sew the eye patch to the head with the yarn tail and tapestry needle.
sew dog spot patch on face
  3. Sew the eye and ears to the head as follows:
    a. Sew the buttoned eye on the eye patch with a strand of yellow yarn and a tapestry needle. After sewing the first eye, insert the yarn into the head and come out at the second eye to sew another eye. Pull the yarn slightly to sink the eyes into the head, then tightly knot it. To prevent the yarn from snapping in the long run, run it through the head a few times.
    b. Sew ears to the head at Round 14 (counting from the top).
    crochet dog face
  4. Sew head to the body:
Place the head atop the body. Mark the location and, if necessary, pin it in place.
Sew the head and body together.
stitch crochet dog head to body
  5. Sew arms and legs:
Stitch the arms to the side, next to the head and body seam.
Then, on Round 15 (counting from the bottom), sew the legs to the body.
stitch crochet dog limbs and tail
  6. To finish Danz the crochet dog, sew the tail to the back of the body.
