Studies have shown that doll play has a positive impact on children. It can help them enhance social processing skills, and emotional skills and might even be an excellent way for children to develop their fashion sense. Since the market mainly sells doll garments for barbie/princess dolls, let’s customize our outfit with the Free Crochet Doll Dress & Panties Pattern. Not to say that stuffed animals don’t look good without any clothes on… But, who knows? Maybe they feel shy and would like to be covered up too! 😉

This doll outfit pattern is a beginner-level craft suitable for anyone who wants to start learning how to crochet. In this tutorial, instead of working in rounds as you would with Amigurumi dolls, you will crochet in rows. The crochet terms you will be working with include chain stitch, double crochet stitch, decreasing stitch, increasing stitch, single crochet stitch, slip stitch, right side, and wrong side. The written crochet pattern is in a US term but they can be converted to a UK term easily by referring to this post. Continue to scroll down to the tutorial below for the list of abbreviated terms.

Crocheting a doll garment is just like crocheting real human outfits. Hence, if you manage to complete this project as a first-timer, you’ll be crocheting a similar outfit for humans in no time! For this crochet doll dress & panties pattern, you’ll need to prepare some stashed yarns with the color of your choice, 2 small buttons, a 2.5mm crochet hook, a darning needle, and a pair of scissors.

crochet dress for doll

The first section of the Amigurumi dress is made by joining three separate parts together to form the top part; a front piece and two back pieces (left & right) pieces. Once you’re done with the top part, you may move on to crochet the skirt with shell stitches. Then, finish it off by stitching the shoulders together and adding a ruffed or plain edge trim!

The total length of the crochet doll dress is 6”, with a collar grith of 7” and an armhole of 6”. We love the details on the Amigurumi dress; it’s so pretty! With the two loops at the back, you can slip the dress over your stuffed doll’s head and button it up from the back.

Next up, we have the crochet panties with a measurement of  3” (length), 6” (groin grith), and 15” (smallest hip girth). It is unique because it is curled at the groin girth, giving it a naturally cupped outlook. And due to the ribbons on the sides, this pattern is entirely adjustable to fit your stuffed doll! If you’re familiar with crochet tensions, you may even alter the size to fit a newborn.

This crochet pattern is made by joining 2 back pieces (left and right) and a front piece together. After the top is done, proceed to crochet the skirt part with shell stitches. Then, complete the dress with a ruffled or plain edge trim.

These 2 sets are made from the same base crochet pattern with some minor variations.

The Off White dress has a ruffled trim at the collar and armholes, whilst the blue dress has a plain trim.

As for the bottom piece, the Blue panties is crochet by alternating the yarn color every 2 rows. Begin with 1 row of blue, then 2 rows of white, and alternate between the colors. Then finish off with blue trim.
