Remember Tad, the crochet teddy bear, the free crochet pattern that we shared a while ago? We also promised to share the latest 3 outfits we designed for him, including this pair of onesie crochet pajamas and a sleep hat set. We have fulfilled the promise and are excited to present the adorable new additions to Tad’s wardrobe!
Along with the cozy crochet pajamas and sleep hat, we have a casual yet stylish striped crochet top and a whimsical sailor costume crochet pattern. Each outfit comes complete with its own detailed pattern and instructions, ensuring you can easily recreate these adorable ensembles for all your amigurumi crochet animals in the Animal Wildlife Collection or any huggable stuffed animals of similar size.
Though we designed it for amigurumi, it could be a great fit as a prop for newborn photography. It is advisable to use soft yarn to crochet this pajama set if your intention is for newborns. Newborns’ skins are sensitive, so we want to dress them in something comfortable so they don’t get annoyed during the photography session.

Crochet Supplies
Before you start your crocheting journey, let’s first gather all of the necessary materials.
- Yarn in your choice of color for the pajamas and the hat. We used acrylic light-worsted yarn in Yellow and White. Cotton yarn works best for babies and you may use worsted-weight yarn if you want to make a slightly bigger size.
- 2.5 mm Crochet Hook (3.5 mm for worsted yarn)
- Small Buttons, 5 pcs
- 2.5″ Pom-Pom Maker
- Tapestry needle

How To Crochet Sleep Hat
First, let’s crochet the sleep hat using the following method. You can print and save the full crochet pattern for the sleep hat at the bottom of the page.
Make a magic ring with your choice of yarn. Follow the crochet pattern to create a 51-round, cone-shaped hat with half double crochet stitches from tip to brim.
If you wish to make a stripe design, then replace the yarn with another yarn color on the alternate rounds; otherwise, stay on a single color all the way to make a solid color sleep hat.
Make a 2.5″ pom-pom with a 65mm pom-pom maker. You can learn how to make pom-pom to make or buy an ever-ready pom-pom.
Attach the pom-pom to the tip of the hat.
Next, stitch along the hat’s “seam”, i.e. the sl st stitches using yarn and a tapestry needle. Then, pull the yarn to tighten and create gathers along the seam to style the sleep hat.
How To Crochet Pajamas Onesie
Here is the tutorial on how to crochet the onesie pajamas. Again, we have the full written crochet pattern that you can print or save at the end of the page.
This pattern begins at the bottom and works towards the top with hdc stitches. It is started by making the pants part, then the body part with the front opening, and finally, joining the sleeves before ending on the collar.
Start by crocheting the sleeves and set them aside. As soon as we reach the chest area, we will be attaching them to the crochet pajamas.
Begin the crochet pajamas by crocheting the pants part and work it way up to the neck.
The pants part was done by joining 2 tubes at round 9. It follows an identical method as shown in the crochet overalls pattern and crochet pants with suspenders pattern. You may refer to these tutorials if you have questions. It is not difficult as long as you understand how it works.
Crochet all the way up from the pants to the chest, where we will attach the sleeves to the crochet pajamas, and then finish it up with more details. This method is similar to the crochet top we recently made for Tad. If you require more detailed instructions, please refer to the tutorial.
That’s how it looks after the sleeves are attached.
Continue to crochet with the given crochet pattern.
Crochet plackets to the front opening of the crochet pajamas, where the right placket has button holes for fastening.
Sew to close the opening at the pants and sleeve parts.
Hide all yarns and neaten up the crochet pajamas.
Lastly, sew the small bottom to the placket to complete the crochet pajamas.

ONESIE PAJAMAS CROCHET PATTERN
This pattern begins at the bottom and works towards the top with hdc stitches. It is started by making the pants part, then the body part with the front opening, and finally, joining the sleeves before ending on the collar.
ch2 at the beginning of the round and sl st at the end of the round don't count as a stitch unless told otherwise.

Begin with Yellow yarn and tie a slip knot onto the crochet hook.
Foundation Round: ch 28, slst to form a ring

Pants Part
This pattern is created by crocheting two leg pieces together from bottom to top.
Leg Piece 1
