Crochet Supplies

Here are the tools and materials that you need to prepare for this amigurumi tiger pattern:

  • Yarn: yellow, cream, and black.
I used light worsted or DK yarn to make a 12.5″ tall Timoe. You can use a bulkier yarn weight like worsted yarn to make a larger Timoe, or a lighter weight like sport-weight yarn to make a smaller one.
  • Crochet Hook: 2.5 mm
This hook size is for crocheting DK yarn. If you are using other yarn sizes, you might need to adjust the hook size accordingly.
  • Safety Eyes & Nose: 10 mm Gold Iris eye and 18 mm Black Nose.
These sizes are suitable for a DK yarn Timoe, so if you use different yarn weights, remember to adjust the sizes in order to look proportional.
  • Wire (optional): Chennile Pipe Cleaner or Craft Floral Wire
This is for the tail if you want it to be shapeable. Otherwise, it can be omitted.
  • Stuffing: Polyester Fiberfill
  • Tools: Long Tapestry Needle, temporary marker, scissors, and pins.
These are the necessary tools for assembling Timoe.

Skill Level

Timoe is graded as an intermediate skill-level crochet pattern because of the colorwork involved in this tiger pattern. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage beginners with some amigurumi crochet experience to take on the challenge. With our detailed step-by-step photos and explanations, we are confident that beginners will have no difficulty in making Timoe.

You only need to know a few basic crochet stitches to make Timoe. Here is the list of crochet stitches used in this tiger pattern:

Should you need a refresher or additional information, here is a beginner’s guide to crocheting and crocheting amigurumi animals. Besides the basics, you can find some useful info on how to change yarn color to make the stripes.

How To Crochet Timoe

Similar to most amigurumi, Timoe is made up of a few crochet parts, assembled together by stitching with a tapestry needle. Follow the free written crochet pattern given below (scroll down to the pattern section) and make these parts:

  1. Body
  2. Head
  3. Muzzle
  4. A pair of ears
  5. A pair of arms
  6. A pair of legs with paw pads
  7. Tail

Take note of the yarn color change instructions. Alternate your crochet with different yarn colors to create the stripe design and the patch on the chest.

Follow the tiger pattern precisely on all the details given, such as the location of the eyes and nose and how much to stuff the arms and legs.

How To Assemble

crochet tiger's head after attaching muzzle and markings

Once all your parts are done, assemble the head by sewing the muzzle on it. Then, use black and cream yarns to make a few stitches around the eyes, eyebrows, and a verticle marking on the forehead.

Next, sew the ears on the head. Use a temporary marker to draw a curve on the head where the ear is positioned.

Pin and sew them on.

Once the head is done, it’s time to complete Timoe by joining up all the parts.
