It’s a bright sunny day, in a quiet park there comes the elephant amigurumi enjoying some sunbeams when the human beings have to stay at home. In the current situation, human beings are safe at home that makes animals safe in the wild. Thus, Elwis and Elyra, designed and made in Craft Passion’s studio are able to play at the open ground without any fear.
Elwis is a cheerful baby elephant that’s wearing a blue stripe diaper pants. With his jolly personality, he just can’t stop roaming every corner of the park. His chatty character has won a lot of friends because everyone likes him, he is such a pleasant and amusing elephant. He will grow up to be a public speaker and probably a famous one.
Elyra, on the other hand, is a shy quiet girl that just follows where Elwis brings her. On this day, Elyra puts on her favorite rainbow-ruffles dress to the park with Elwis. Though she is as excited as Elwis to be able to roam around the park freely, she prefers to keep all her feelings to herself.
Elephant Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

The Elephant Amigurumi is about 12″ tall in standing pose and about 9″ tall when it is sitting down, crochet from DK lightweight acrylic yarn by using 2.5mm hook. It is a great size as a huggable softie, hence, it is absolutely lovely to make as a gift for someone who loves cuddling stuffed animals.
The size can be altered by using a different yarn weight, eg. bigger size by using heavier yarn, DK medium yarn with 3.0mm hook, or, smaller size by using lighter baby yarn with 2.0mm. In addition, crochet tension will determine the size a little. My tension is quite snug, thus, my Elwis might be a little smaller compares to your Elwis even with the same yarn and hook size.
These elephants were crochet from the same pattern, with just a little manipulation it gives these two tuskers quite a different character. For instance, Elwis’s trunk is pointing upward and with a mouth under the trunk, it gives a cheerful appearance to the elephant amigurumi. Contrarily, trunk down and the dress relate a more refine and girlie character on Elyra. The diaper pants on Elwis are removable but the dress on Elyra is permanent. The little tusks on Elwis also gave him a semblance for being a male elephant.
Elwis & Elyra, the Elephant Amigurumi is part of Craft Passion Animal & Wildlife design collection. In this collection, all the animals are designed to a size of at least 10″ tall, perfect to crochet as cuddling stuffed animals. They may take a little more time and skill to make, but it is definitely worth the effort when you see the final soft toys.
Happy crochet and enjoy every stitch you are making, they are part of the Elephant Amigurumi, Elwis & Elyra.

AMIGURUMI PATTERN
Elwis is crochet from Grey Yarn and Elyra is crochet from Cyan Yarn. Both Elephants are crochet from the same pattern, while Elwis's trunk is pointing upward and Elyra's trunk is pointing downward. However, the major differences between them are 1. Elyra doesn't have tusks and mouth, also, 2. Elyra is wearing a dress and Elwis is wearing removable diaper pants. The dress is done by adding ruffle pieces to the bottom and top of the body, at the same time, part of the body is crochet from the same yarn as the ruffle pieces.

How to assembly the Elephant Amigurumi
Sew 2 black buttons as eyes at round 38, at the center of each side of the head; roughly 27 stitches apart.
Do not cut the yarn after sewing the first eye, instead, insert it into the head and come out from the second eye to sew another eye.
Pull the yarn a little to sink the eyes into the head, knot securely. You can run the yarn through the head a few times to prevent the yarn from snapping in the long run.
If you turn the head the other way round, it is the trunk down expression.
Elwis is with the trunk pointing upward, Elyra is with the trunk pointing downward.
If you are making Elwis with the trunk-up position, sew the mouth between round 33 to 36.
Another view after the mouth is sewn.
(bottom view)
Followed by sewing the tusks between round 32 to 34, 7 stitches apart at the sides of the mouth.
The side view after the eyes, mouth, and tusks are sewed to the head.
Sew the ears and body to the head followed by sewing arms (between head and body), feet (on round 14), and tail (on round 16) to the body to complete the elephant amigurumi.
Notes
Depending on the speed and hours you are spending on the project, the total time needed is only an approximation.
Stuff the parts firmly and densely to give a good shape to amigurumi doll.

Hi I am very new to crocheting and this will be my first amigurumi. I want to make the elephants. I am confused on the very beginning instructions about the increase. It says to increase in the second stitch 2sc from the hook and then 5sc in the last stitch. Do I put any others stitches I between those 2 stitches.
Hi Michelle,
Do you mean the first row of the Body pattern?
Round 1: ch5, Inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, 5sc in the last ch. Continue on the other side of the chain base, sc 2, 3sc in the last ch. {14}
There is a “sc 2” between the first and last stitch (the bolded text).
Hope this helps.
This is so cute! Thank you so much for the free pattern! I think ill make the blue elephant for my moms baby, but I will do colors light pink as the body, a rainbow for the dress, and a really light white as the feet and paws. 😀 Thank you so much!!

I love my new challenge !!! Thank you so much for such a lovely project, it’s adorable I’ll upload photos when I do
After attaching the top ruffles to the dress, do we continue on with the rest of the body pattern?
You are right, Lucy. I have added the instruction to the pattern.
can i sell amigurumi from this pattern?? because it is just sooo cute!!!!
Of course, you are allowed to sell your completed handmade.
I am a little confused. If I follow the body pattern to row 17 I have 64 stitches. I then add the ruffle which has 256 stitches by sc them together. Isn’t there extra ruffle that doesn’t attach?
Hi Mary, the ruffled skirt begins with 64 stitches and that’s the place that you join it to the body. The 256 stitches round is the outer edge of the skirt where it “ruffles”. Hope this helps.
Thank you! Not sure what I did wrong but I just re-read the pattern and of course it makes sense. Thank you. She is such a cute little elephant!
Glad that it is clear now 🙂 Happy crochet!
Hallo, das ist alles so wunderbar. Wäre es möflich die Anleitungen auch in Deutsch zu bekommen? Das wäre mega fantastisch.

I love it.
I’m doing this project but have had a difficulties interpreting the tail instructions. You could be more explicit.
Keep doing those wonderful jobs, greetings from Guatemala
Hi Marry, was it the puff stitch (pf3) that you were having difficulties with? I hope to know more details so that I could improve the pattern in the future. Your input is much apprecaited.
I’m seriously sorry if I was not very clear with my question, it is difficult for me to ask questions in English as it is not my native language. I don’t really understand nothing about what I have to do after ch3.
No worries, after ch3, do puff stitch of 3 in each st, this part is the tip of the tail. Please google puff stitch or ps3, you should be able to find the how-to. Hope this helps.
Helps a lot, thanks for the help and for being so nice to newbies. I can’t wait to see more of your creations.
You are most welcome. Happy crochet and have a great time!
How much yarn is required for the Elephant Amigurumi. I’m not sure how many skeins I will need for the project. I’m not seeing specific yarn amounts in the pattern. Would love to make Elyra for my granddaughter.
Thank you for your free patterns!
I used 1 skein of 100g each color, however, some yarn might have different lengths, so make sure it is not the last skein on the shelf when you buy it.
So very cute! Thank you for the free pattern. What weight of acrylic yarn did you use?
