Before diving into our free crochet pattern to make other stuffed animals, let’s get to know Mindy, the crochet mouse!

crochet mouse amigurumi pattern

Upon her arrival at the village, Mindy was skeptical of getting friendly with the others because of the Amigurumi Cats. She had no idea what to expect due to the scary stories she heard from her friends about cats. However, that was before our gentle giant, Elwis the Amigurumi Elephant, invited her to join their animal wildlife luncheon.

Mindy plucked up her courage and accepted the invitation. Everybody in the village was relieved that she finally opened her heart and took the chance to assure her that Amigurumi Cats, namely “Hello Kitty” and “Cosmo”, are the friendliest cats she’ll ever meet. Since then, she’s spent lots of quality time with the cats and babysitting their three musketeers when they’re off at a photo shoot.

How Do We Pose The Crochet Mouse Stuffed Animal

Speaking of photoshoots and how to make Mindy pose the way we want her to be, here is the simple trick: WIRE!!! We inserted bendable wires into the back of Mindy’s head down to the back so that we could pose her better for photos. They’re often placed by gently poking through the body and into the stuffed doll’s legs or arms to make them pose-able.

In this case, we only inserted the wires after assembling the crochet doll as external support. Hence, they are removable, making them safe for children. If you intend to have the wire permanently inserted into the body, you may watch this video to get an idea of it. We use this method on some of our amigurumi animals, especially for the tails and antlers.

While the bubble pants Mindy is wearing help make her stand easily, we still add some support from her legs. Watch this video to learn how to help your amigurumi stand.

What Do You Need To Prepare

Let’s get started with this free crochet mouse pattern! This detailed tutorial includes three free crochet patterns: the amigurumi mouse, flower headband, and bubble pants. The materials and tools required for all three patterns include acrylic yarns in gray, pink, dark gray, off-white, yellow, and brown, a pair of 10mm dome-button eyes, polyester fiberfill, a 2.5 mm crochet hook, a long tapestry needle, water erasable fabric marker, scissors, and pins.

Crochet Mouse

Begin crocheting the mouse pattern by making the body parts separately (head, ears, arms, legs, and tail). We used two colors to crochet Mindy’s head, ears, and legs to make it more realistic. Though changing yarn colors may seem tricky, you may use only one color throughout if you are not confident with the technique.

Continue to follow the pattern to secure the button eyes to the mouse’s head. If you are making this doll for a toddler, use embroidery floss instead to prevent kids from pulling out button eyes. Lastly, finish the mouse amigurumi pattern by sewing its ears to the head and the head, legs, arms, and tail to its body.

Crochet Outfits

Aside from the 11″ crochet pattern for the mouse, we’ve included the free amigurumi patterns for Mindy’s outfit. We redesigned the flower crochet pattern into a yellow flower headband, which will make a pretty bracelet for young girls, too!

As for Mindy’s pants, we went with off-white colored yarn and added some frill hems and waist string to make it look more fashionable. The accessory and pants are made to fit other Craft Passion amigurumi since they’re about the same size.

Crochet Pattern Skill Level

This intermediate-level crochet mouse pattern takes approximately three days to complete. You’d need to be familiar with the following crochet terms; chain, chain space, double crochet, 2sc increase, invisible decrease, single crochet, slip stitch, skip, back loop only, right side, and wrong side. Check out the How To Crochet post for a more detailed explanation of the techniques.

It looks like Mindy isn’t alone after all! She brought her crochet baby mice and cheese wedge when she moved to the village, and they’ve become close friends with Hello Kitty’s kittens. Together, the six musketeers share their love for swiss cheese and can never get enough of it.
