This mini Sun Hat is about the size 3.5″ diameter brim to brim, and I crochet it with my stashed raffia yarn, a leftover from my various raffia crochet patterns.

It is a quick-to-complete crochet pattern that you can whip up a few hats in a day.

Make it for your doll, crochet animals, or the little rodent pets, and it is also a perfect accessory for Barbie Doll.

Apart from making for dolls, it can be attached to a hook and made into bag charms and keychains, too, great as a little gift to friends and colleagues.

As you already noticed that this mini sun hat has a horizontal “V” knit-like stitch, don’t get freak-out, it is, in fact, a variation of a single crochet stitch. This beautiful stitch is called “single crochet at the horizontal bar or the 3rd loop” or single crochet camel stitch in the round. Read further to get the instructions on how it is crocheted.

Update: A few years after creating this tiny hat crochet pattern, I made three sun hats for my old garden ducklings. I gave them a fresh coat of paint before starting. This time, I used two strands of raffia yarn and crochet with a 4.5 mm hook to make the hats slightly larger than the original pattern. Additionally, I skipped the bow band on the hat’s ninth round, making the hat one round shorter on the crown to fit the ducklings’ heads properly. Hope this will inspire you to crochet something similar for your garden figurines soon.
