monkey amigurumi pattern

Happy New Year!!! Daikichi, the big fortune good luck monkey amigurumi crochet pattern is sending all the best wishes to Craft Passion’s readers on behalf of Craft Passion and AmiguruMEI. May 2016 be a blessed year for us to craft, made and create!!!!

According to the Chinese calendar, 2016 is the year of Monkey. Mei Li of AmiguruMEI has specially designed an amigurumi pattern of Monkey to celebrate the New Year with us.

I am glad Mei Li is back with this great pattern to share while she is pregnant with twin boys. If you have been following her on Facebook, you will notice that she has been busy with the preparation to welcome her babies. Her babies will arrive in about a week time, I would like to wish her a smooth delivery and all the best in her new parenthood life.

Though I already have a  Sock Monkey Amigurumi pattern developed from the famous sock monkey, when Mei Li sent me the idea of creating another monkey crochet pattern to celebrate the New Year of 2016, I instantly agreed with her proposal. I am sure she will come out with a fantastic monkey design. Look… Daikichi is simply the cutest monkey amigurumi I have ever seen.

Hope you enjoy making this monkey amigurumi doll and again, wish you all the best in 2016 🙂

Happy crafting!!!

Contributed by: Lee Mei Li of AmiguruMEI
Skill level: Intermediate
Duration: About 4 hours
Size: 5″ Tall

Description:
Daikichi (which means extremely good luck or big fortune in Japanese) is a baby monkey who is loved by all because of his sweet, innocent features. Little do people know that he is really a mischievous little thing, who enjoys pulling pranks and gobbling up any food he sees in sight. As they always say, boys will be boys. Hopefully, he will grow out of his naughtiness by his next birthday 🙂

Round 27: [Inv dec, sc 1] around {12}.
Round 28: [Inv dec] around {6}.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Nose
Using dark brown embroidery floss and a darning needle, you will be making a French knot for the nose.
1. Thread the floss up from the bottom of the head through to the center of the face. It should exit at a stitch on Round 2 of the head.
2. Hold the floss taut and loop it six times around the needle.
3. Pull the needle through to make a small French knot.
4. Bring the floss two stitches away, and gently pull it through to the bottom of the head.
5. Trim excess floss.

Eye indentations
1. With a new strand of caramel cream yarn, thread it through a darning needle and bring it up to a spot below Round 6 of the head.
2. Make a horizontal backstitch and bring the yarn back down to the bottom of the body.
3. Gently tug to create an indentation. Repeat on the other side. Each indentation should be about 5 stitches away from the nose.
4. Bring yarn to the bottom of the head, knot it and trim excess.

Cheeks
Make 2 with light pink yarn:
Row 1: Ch 6.
Row 2: Sc 4, 3 sc in last st. Rotate work.
Row 3: Sc 8, 2 sc in last st.
Clean fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Ears

Round 4: [Inc, sc 2] around {24}.
Round 5: [Inc, sc 3] around {30}.
Rounds 6-10 (5 rounds altogether): Sc around {30}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Flatten the pieces and give it a scooped appearance.

Arms

Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6}.
Round 2: [Inc] around {12}.
Round 3: Sc around {12}.
Round 4: : [Inv dec] around {6}.
Rounds 5-12 (8 rounds altogether): Change yarn color to latte. Sc around {6}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Rounds 5-7 (3 rounds altogether): Sc around {12}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Tail
With latte yarn:
Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6}.
Rounds 2-18 (17 rounds altogether): Sc around {6}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Fold floral wire in half (so you won’t have to work with sharp ends) and insert the piece into the tail. Trim to size.

Bow
Part A: Make one larger piece with red yarn:
Row 1: Ch 6.
Rows 2-13 (12 rounds altogether) : Sc 5. Ch 1 and turn.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Part B: Make another smaller piece with red yarn:
Row 1: Ch 12.
Rows 2-3 (2 rounds altogether) : Sc 11. Ch 1 and turn.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Attaching Part A + Part B:
1. Scrunch up the center of the larger piece.
2. Wrap the smaller piece over the center of the larger piece and sew in place.

Assembly
1. Cut two pieces of white felt into small crescents to match the size of the black brads.
2. Glue the brads and white felt in place as the eyes. Follow the eye indentations you mad earlier to find the right positions.
3. Sew the cheeks in place.
4. Cut two pieces of dark brown felt into small tubes. Glue on as eyebrows.
5. Sew on the ears.
6. Sew on the body, arms, legs and finally the tail.
7. Position the red bow underneath Daikichi’s chin, on his body, and sew in place.

Monkey headGive Daikichi a sweet and innocent expression.

Sew the ears low on the head for a cuter look.

Position and pin the body parts in place before sewing.

Add floral wire to the tail to make it bendable.

Finish off by sewing on the tail.

I tried to click on “go to pattern and tutorial” and it kept going to the page that kept saying “go to pattern and tutorial”. It wouldn’t take me to the pattern page although I’ve not had problems with any of the other patterns I looked at.
