Snuggle up to winter with this cute Bubblegum Polar Bear Amigurumi. Crochet pattern and tutorial contributed by the utterly talented amigurumi designer, Lee Mei Li of AmiguruMEI. If you love the purple sleepy owl, Mr. Murasaki, you will love this Bubblegum Polar Bear Amigurumi as well.

bear amigurumi

Snow arrives early this year, some parts of the world are snowing for the first time since many years ago. Glad that many who have dreamt of getting a white Christmas got their wishes granted.

If it was as predicted by some scientists that the Earth is entering a period of global cooling, a great whoopee news to the adorable Polar Bear at the Arctic.

As the ice cap is reforming, the polar bear will have more secure land to live on and not afraid of drowning in the chilly sea. Their thick fur will once back to its original purpose – to protect them from the icy cold weather.

The thick fur reminded me a hilarious but sad story about the polar bear, it has to shave its fur in order to survive in a gradually warm up climate.

Do our part to heal the Earth and pray hard that the climate will become mild and moderate eventually.

Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {18}.
Round 4: [Inc, sc 2] around {24}.

Flatten piece. Stuff body according to this flattened shape.
Round 32: [Inv dec, sc 1] around {12}.
Round 33: [Inv dec] around {6}.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ears
Make 2 with white yarn:
Round 1: Sc 5 in magic ring {5}.
Round 2: [Inc] around {10}.
Round 3: Sc around {10}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Arms

Round 2: [Inc] around {12}.
Round 3-9: Sc around {12}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Round 2: [Inc] around {10}.
Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {15}.

Round 2: [Inc] around {10}.
Round 3-4: Sc around {10}.
Round 5: [Inv dec] around {5}.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Scarf
Row 1: Ch 5, sc 4 {4}.
Row 2-78: Ch 1, sc around{4}.
Fasten off, weave in ends but leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly
1. Sew on the ears, scarf, arms, and feet.
2. Glue on a black brad for the nose, at the center of the body below Round 11.
3. Sew on eye indentations: bring a new strand of white yarn through from the back of the body to the front. Make a horizontal backstitch, three stitches away from the nose on the right. Repeat on the other side. Bring yarn to the back of the body and trim excess.
4. Cut white felt into two small crescent shapes, matching the size of the black brads. Pair them up with the black brads and glue them onto where the eye indentations are.
5. Use black crochet thread to sew on the lips. Do not pull the thread taut – leave it a little loose so you can make the stitches curvier by manipulating it with a darning needle.
6. Cut two pink felt circles and glue onto the cheeks.
7. Sew the tail onto the back of the body.

Bubblegum1Flatten body piece and stuff accordingly.

Bubblegum2Instead of having a spherical body, Bubblegum is shaped more like a bar of soap. Give the body a gentle squeeze to form this shape.

Bubblegum3The side profile of the body should look like this.

Bubblegum4Sew on the ears, scarf, arms, and feet.

Bubblegum5Glue on the nose. Sew on the right eye indentation.

Bubblegum6Sew on the left eye indentation.

Bubblegum7Glue on the eyes.

Bubblegum8Sew on the lips and manipulate the shape with a darning needle.

Bubblegum9Glue pink felt onto the cheeks.

Bubblegum10Sew on the tail.

Hmmm…. Eileen, which button did you press to download? Is it the green color print button at the end of the tutorial?

Hey, I had a small question since I’m new to amigurumi and reading patterns 🙂 In the pattern:
    Round 4: [Inc, sc 2] around {24}.

Does Round 4 mean, single crochet in the first two stitches and then do an increase (2 single crochet in the third stitch)? I wanted to know so I get an idea for the rest of the pattern 🙂

    Thank you so much 😀

Hi Nihoshka, Inc means increment stitch which is to crochet 2 sc in 1 stitch. Sc2 means single crochet in next 2 stitches.
      Happy crochet!!!
