This is a quick and easy project that you can finish within an hour. You can use these crocheted flowers to make hair ties, brooches, and other hair accessories. They can also be used as embellishments for your purse, hat, bag, cushion, lampshade, clothes, or as decorations on gift wrapping.

There are numerous crochet project ideas on Pinterest. I especially adore the idea of adding a crochet flower to embellish a beanie hat or other a larger project.

It happens that I have some extra yarn from a little crochet sling bag project I made for my friend, so I make these crocheted flowers into hair-ties for my friend and her 3 daughters. The hair ties will be nice on them as they all have long and beautiful hair like their mom. I hope the girls won’t fight over the sling bag, as I only managed to crochet one and use the rest of the yarn for the matching crochet flower hair ties.

There are 2 versions of ruffled flowers in this pattern: a full blossom crochet ruffled flower and a beaded crochet ruffled flower. If you happen to be a little short of yarn just before completing a full blossom crochet flower, you can always reduce and adjust the number of stitches in the last round of the pattern.

Crochet Ruffled Flower Pattern

Difficulty Level: Beginner – must know how to crochet ch, sc, hdc, tr & slst.

Size: The size varies depending on the yarn type and crochet tension. The one in the photo is approximately 4″.

Materials & Tools:

  1. Stash Yarns, about 10g -20g, depending on the yarn weight. I used baby lightweight yarn.
  2. Button
  3. Crochet Hook, as recommended by the yarn’s label. I used 4mm.
  4. Scissors
  5. Elastic hairband or other hair accessories you want to attach the flower to.
  6. Tapestry needle or yarn needle with a big eye.
  7. Beads, 40 pcs. (only for beaded ruffle flowers)

R1 – ch2, sc 8 on the second chain from hook, slst on the ch at the beginning of the round.
R2 – *ch2, hdc on next st, ch2, slst onto the same st, repeat * 8 times.
R3 – ch, *sc on next st of R1, ch2, repeat * 8 times, slst on the first ch of the round. Bring the 8 chain loops to the back of the work.
or you can do the sc and ch2 directly at the back of the work.
R4 – ch, sc on chain loop, ch2, dc3, ch2, sc on the same loop, repeat the same on the next loop until you have done all the 8 loops.
R5 – ch, *sc on next st of R3, ch 5, skip next R3 st, repeat * 4 times, slst to the first ch of the round. Bring all 4 chain loops to the back of the work. Or, you can do the sc and ch5 directly to the back of the work.
R6 – ch4, * ch, tr on the chain loop, ch3 slst on the top loop of the tr, ch, tr on the same loop, repeat * 12 times. Repeat 4 times to complete the 4 loops round, slst to the 4th ch at the beginning of the round.

  • Beaded Crochet Ruffled Flower

Insert beads into the yarn
Follow R1 – R5 above.
R6 – ch4, * ch, tr on the chain loop, ch with 1 bead and slst on the top loop of the tr, ch, tr on the same loop, repeat * 10 times. Repeat 4 times to complete the 4 loops round, slst to the 4th ch at the beginning of the round.
You may do more tr stitches to get a fuller ruffled look on the flower.

Assembly:

Sew a button at the center, keep the yarn, and don’t cut it yet.
Sew an elastic hairband or other accessories to the back. Then fasten and hide the yarn end away.
Add some quick-drying glue to secure the hairband if you wish.

Note:

1. You may do more tr stitches at the last round to get a fuller ruffled look on the flower. Or, reduce the number of tr in each loop just in case you run out of yarn.
2. If you find that it is difficult to insert yarn through the hole of the bead, use a small dot of UHU all-purpose adhesive, PVA craft glue (or Mod Podge) on the end of the yarn and twist the end while the glue is drying to shape a pointy tip. Let it dry for a while, as it will be harder later.

Step-By-Step Photos

round 3

R3 – ch, *sc on next st of R1, ch2, repeat * 8 times, slst on the first ch of the round.
Bring the 8 nos. of 2-ch-loop to the back of the work.
If you are able to make the 2-ch loop at the back of the work directly, skip the next 2 pictures and go straight to R4.

This is another version of a similar layered ruffle flower pattern; just add beads and reduce the number of ruffles at the last round of the crochet work (refer to the pattern above).

I can't figure out the final round 6 - I have tried it over and over, and can't get it to look anything like in your photos :( do you have a video by chance for that round?

Oh, this must be frustrating for you. Please take a close-up photo of your shell to show me (via email joanne@craftpassion.com) or to compare with the step photos. Sorry, we do not produce any video for this pattern.

The perfect flower to add to some squares for a blanket I'm making, so easy to make too. Thank you for the pattern.

Dear Joanne, I crocheted the first 5 rows and stuck on the last one. Could you please tell me, shouldn't there be any sc to the base loops which are on the back (those one which we created in row 5). If I follow your pattern: *ch, tr on the chain loop, ch3 slst on the top loop of the tr, ch, tr on the same loop, repeat* and repeat it 12 times I get a veeeeery long line of loops and crochets but neither of them is connected to the base. This is because each consequent crochet is build on the previous one. Or I didn't understand correctly your description? Could you please crarify this row?

Hi Okszana, There are 2 types of loops in R6. Those highlighted in bold is the base loop. The one that is not highlighted is the loop on the top of the tr stitch. Hope I make this clear and answered your question. Please let me know should you have any question. R6 – ch4, * ch, tr on the chain loop, ch3 slst on the top loop of the tr, ch, tr on the same loop, repeat * 12 times. Repeat 4 times to complete the 4 loops round, slst to the 4th ch at the beginning of the round.
