Sewing Tutorial: 6 Compartments Slip Pocket
This slip pocket is the second internal pocket (after the zipper pocket) I have made for a bag.
I always don’t feel satisfy with the slip pocket came in most bags, they don’t have enough compartments for me to put my small belongings in an organized way. So I made this, a 6 compartments slip pockets.
The front are slim pockets (credit card size) for you to put cards, eg. door excess card, toll card, parking card separately and don’t have to mess them up in a big pocket and need to throw everything out before you can find them.
The back pockets are deep and spacious compartments which can hold thicker item like a compact cosmetic pack, small mirror, slim mobile phone, etc….
The slender center pockets are suitable for keeping small items like thumb drive, pen, key, lip stick etc….
Finished size of this pocket is 8″ x 2 3/4″.
Let’s see how to this 6 compartments slip pockets for a bag
Cut 2 pieces of 11″ x 4 1/2″ with 1/2″ seam allowance. Iron the fusible interfacing on the wrong side for both of them.
Sew around with right side facing each other, leaving a 2″ opening for turning the pocket inside out.
If your fabric is image orientated, allow the opening at the bottom of the pocket.
Clip corners.
Turn the pocket inside out. Adjust the corners by using pointy tool so that they set into a nice right angle.
Press to set the shape.
Edge stitch the top and bottom at 1/8″.
Fold the bottom of the pocket at 1 1/2″. Press to set.
Top stitch 3/4″ and 4 5/16″ from the left edge on the fold only.
Top stitch 3/4″ and 4 5/16″ from the right edge too.
Place a credit card to make sure that it can go in, it should be able but just check.
Mark the lining where you want to put the slip pocket on (8″ x 2 3/4″).
Place and pin the slip pocket at your marked lining at the center.
Top stitch the center, 1/4″ from the card compartment, full length from top to bottom of the pocket.
I put 2 white papers at the sides, hope you can see the center part clearly.
Pin both sides on the marked lining. Fold the pocket along the stitches of the card compartment for both sides of each compartment respectively. Press to set the crease.
Sew around the 3 sides of the pocket to the lining.
Sew a few stitches at the top edge of the crease to set the shape.
I darkened the lining area, hope you can see the slip pocket clearly.
DONE!

Love it! I’m always fishing down in the bottom of my purse for my phone and extra cash. It would be so much easier if my bag had a set of these pockets on the inside!
