The idea of crochet a big apple amigurumi hit me instantly while I am cutting up the apples for the apple crumble muffins {recipe}. If you’ve read my apple crumble muffins recipe, you would noticed there is a red apple amigurumi in the photo, but that is the small apple I got the pattern from book. I want something bigger, something like the size of a big Granny Smith Apple, juicy and delicious, so, I came out with this design adapted from the small apple amigurumi pattern.
This real looking big apple amigurumi was crochet using a fingering / baby yarn, the size is 3″. You may change to bulkier yarn weight to make a bigger apple or using finer lace thread to make a smaller one.
Just a few ideas for further development on this big apple amigurumi pattern: 1. add a worm with it’s head sticking out from the apple. 2. Add eyes and a smiling mouth with a rosy cheek for a kawaii look. 3. Use rainbow color yarn to create a rainbow apple. Do you have other ideas to add into the list?

Поздравляю с Днем Победы! Hello, Thank you for sharing this pattern. I was wondering what I would need to do to make the apple larger, like 12 inches?
Good question, Vesna, sorry to say that you will need a new pattern to make the apple that big, for instant, add stitches and more round to blow up the size.
Hi! I’m fairly new to crocheting and thought this would be a fun easy project I could do to get some practise. I’m having some trouble with the mentioned “sc2tog inc” however. I have searched youtube and only managed to find decreases for a single crochet two together. Am I misunderstanding how this is used?
Hi Kristin, there is a typo in the abbreviation, it should be “2sc inc”. I have got it corrected. Thank you for pointing out.
I made this apple too… it is a great pattern!
