Update alert! This is an updated version of my crochet butterfly, flower, and leaf post many years ago. This is one of my favorite crochet patterns to revisit from time to time as it is so easy to make, yet the results are always rewarding. I hope you like to crochet flowers as much as I do!
This easy crochet flower pattern takes 5 minutes to construct, and I have included a few variations in this pattern to make flowers with different numbers of petals. I started with the original design of a 6-petal flower. With a few adjustments in the number of stitches, I made flowers with 4, 5, and 8 petals. Now is the perfect time to make these little flowers. Come along as I guide you through this photo tutorial.
CROCHET FLOWER PATTERN FOR BEGINNERS
If you’re a beginner in crochet or if you’re simply looking for a quick and easy pattern to make, then this free crochet pattern is for you. This written pattern is suitable for crocheters of beginners’ skill level.
Some knowledge of basic stitches is required, such as chain, magic ring, single crochet, double crochet, stitch, slip stitch (sl st), slip knot, and fasten off. However, if you’re unfamiliar with these terms, you may check out my guide to crochet for beginners. The guide not only explains crochet abbreviations but also talks about the different types of yarn like acrylic yarn, cotton yarn, worsted weight yarn, and so on. In addition, there are also written instructions on how to choose crochet hook sizes, yarn, tapestry needles, and many additional crochet tools.
Besides that, the guide includes step-by-step photo instructions on how to start crocheting with a magic ring. Finally, there are also recommendations and links for easy crochet patterns to practice your new skills on. Do let us know if you found this guide useful, or feel free to ask us a question in the comment section below.

WHAT YOU NEED TO CROCHET FLOWER
This free pattern is a great way to start your crochet journey, as not much is needed to create a beautiful small flower. All you need is small amounts of yarn, a crochet hook, a tapestry needle, and scissors. This easy crochet project is the perfect way to use up your scrap yarn leftover from other projects.
I used yarn scrap as this pattern only utilizes a small amount of yarn. For the tools, I used a crochet hook of 2.25 mm for my sport weight yarn and a tapestry needle. Generally, a smaller hook works best for thinner weights of yarn. Furthermore, lighter or thinner yarn produces a smaller flower, whereas thicker yarns make a larger flower.
DECORATING WITH CROCHET FLOWERS
These teeny tiny flowers make the perfect embellishment for almost anything. They are great to put onto many things apart from those I have made here. You can make cute flowers of different sizes and place them together to make a bouquet. Besides pasting the crochet flower bouquet on a photo frame, I recommend pinning them on bags, crochet hats, notebook covers to spice up these everyday items. Furthermore, you may link multiple flowers together to make a flower garland for your amigurumi stuffed animals as I did here, or for the cute fur friends in your life.
Make crochet leaves and butterflies along with this easy flower applique. A fun way to utilize these designs would be to make a card for mommies for the upcoming mother’s day or a greeting card for any occasion. Also, instead of clothespins & hair clips, what about making them for hair bands, earrings, necklace pendants, and rings? Not to mention the flower brooch, there are so many ways to use it, and new ideas are regularly popping up in my mind.
Hair clips are my daughter’s favorite, so I made a pair of flower + butterfly hairclip for her. I think the next things she would want from my crafty hands are earrings and a hairband 🙂
Additionally, you may construct multiple big crochet flowers of your favorite colors to put in a vase on your coffee table or gift it to a friend as a graduation bouquet to celebrate their successful endeavors. These are great as gifts as they carry the sentiment of real flowers without the hassle of caring for them. Another plus point is that they do not contain any pollen, which makes them safe for those who are allergic to fresh flowers. On top of that, this flower lasts forever (sparing the receiver the sadness of seeing the flowers wilt) and will remain beautiful for as long as you keep them dust-free.
The crochet apples definitely look prettier and kawaii with the crochet flowers attached to them as embellishments. Not only that an apple a day keep the doctors away, but this cute crochet apple will also chase your worries away too.
TYPES OF CROCHET FLOWER PATTERNS
A quick search on social media will reveal that there is a myriad of patterns for beautiful crochet flowers. Over the years, I have written a couple of crochet flower patterns with difficulties ranging from beginner to intermediate crocheters. The Easy Flower Brooch Pattern is a beginner-friendly crochet pattern that yields a brooch you can pin onto your bags or hats. This African flower crochet pattern is another one of my favorites as it is so colorful and easy to make. You may try this 5 petal flower pattern if you’re feeling up for a challenge, or you may construct this Ruffled Flower Pattern for a quick and simple project.
I have also found some interesting flower patterns I would like to share with you. This chain loop flower has a multiple-layer crochet design with a button as the center of the flower, otherwise known as the pistil of the flower. Fun fact: the pistil is the reproductive part of the flower, and it is where pollen interaction occurs.
Some crochet patterns yield rather realistic flowers such as this, while others make flowers with bright colors like this. The great thing about crochet flowers is there are so many different ways to make them, it produces various flowers, and it never goes out of style.
