banner quilt

This is the last part of the “Secret Garden Quilt” patterns, font applique before we get into the how-to-quilt section. If you have missed out on the previous patterns, here are the links:

1. Flower Applique Patterns
2. Ladybug, Butterfly & Snail Applique Patterns
3. Songbird, Tree & Sun Applique Patterns

It has been months since I finished quilting this Secret Garden Quilt for my daughter’s bedroom in our new home. I didn’t mean to drag it this long and as anxiously as you are, I wanted to share it out as soon as I can. Time is running fast and 24 hours a day, 7 days a week seems a little hectic for my super long to-do list.

After showing all the 4 sets of applique patterns above, I am sure you already be able to guess how the quilt will look like. I hope that I can update the how-to-quilt tutorial by next week. Please stay tuned!

[Update] For Secret Garden Quilt: Download and print the complete ready-to-stick-on applique fusible web pattern in mirror image here:
1. Secret Garden Font Applique Template 1, print 1 copy
2. Secret Garden Font Applique Template 2, print 1 copy.
Refer to this method for a fast and easy way to make a huge amount of fabric applique.

Tools & Materials
1. Applique patterns (printed or traced on paper)
2. Applique fusible web (I used Steam-A-Seam)
3. Scrap fabrics
4. Base fabric (to place your applique on)
5. Scissors
6. Iron
7. Printer and paper (letter size)

Remark: Follow the instruction of the applique fusible web you are using.

I made this quilt to suit a Super Single bed size (42″ W x 72″ L), by adding a 10″ drop for each side, the full width of the quilt is 62″. If you noticed from the main photo above, I confined the word to the full width of the bed which is 42″ in this case, then I added a little butterfly at each side of the drop. You can get the butterflies here.
Refer to this method for a fast and easy way to make a huge amount of fabric applique.
Or, use your favorite method to cut out iron-on fusible applique pieces.
You may also use the above applique patterns with other applique methods, for example, needle turn applique.
Peel off the backing paper from the cut-out applique pieces, stick them on the base fabric following the pattern.
Permanently fuse the applique on the base fabric with a medium heat iron.

The photos below show the appliques of the font after completed with the trapunto quilting method and loopy lines quilting on the base.

Thank you very much for this pattern, it is beautiful! One question I have is: do you need to enlarge any of the printouts? it seems the wording is small as well as some of the flowers; I’m just trying to picture it.

    Thanks 🙂

The template is in full size. Please check the scaling of your printer, it should be set to “do not scale” or 100% scale. Provided you need a bigger font size, you can always enlarge it. 🙂 Have a nice day.

Hi Marylee, due to the lengthy instruction to make up the complete quilt, I have split the pattern into a few posts. Please go to the main Secret Garden quilt pattern to get all the links to the individual applique pattern page, read through the instruction to get the required number of copies you will need to print out for each applique template. Hope this explained. Happy sewing.

Beautiful quilt and so creative. I did the limb and leaves idea on a baby quilt and placed an owl on the branch. I drew mine from scratch and wish I would have seen this before. Would have been so much easier with your pattern pieces and other ideas to go along. Mine was my first applique try and I loved the way it came out but you have really expanded my ideas of what I can create. Thanks so much.

I do hope your daughter has a great deal of fun using this quilt. It is made with such love and is so inspiring as to what can be done with ingenuity, patience and time. Thank you for taking the time to share and I hope to use parts of your ideas in my quilts. Happy sewing, may your needles not break and the thread run smoothly.
