It has been months since I finished quilting this Secret Garden Quilt for my daughter’s bedroom in our new home. I didn’t mean to drag it this long, and as anxious as you are, I wanted to share it as soon as possible. Time is running fast, and 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, seems a little hectic for my super long to-do list.

After showing all four sets of applique patterns above, I am sure you can already guess what the quilt will look like. I hope to update the how-to-quilt tutorial by next week. Please stay tuned!

More Details On How To Sew Secret Garden Font Appliques

  1. I made this quilt to suit a Super Single bed size (42″ W x 72″ L), by adding a 10″ drop for each side, the full width of the quilt is 62″. If you noticed from the main photo below, I confined the word to the full width of the bed which is 42″ in this case, then I added a little butterfly at each side of the drop. You can get the butterflies here.

Refer to this method for a fast and easy way to make a huge amount of fabric applique.
Or, use your favorite method to cut out iron-on fusible applique pieces.

You may also use the above applique patterns with other applique methods, for example, needle turn applique.

    a. Peel off the backing paper from the cut-out applique pieces, stick them on the base fabric following the pattern.
    b. Permanently fuse the applique on the base fabric with a medium heat iron.applique font

  2. The photos below show the appliques of the font after completed with the trapunto quilting method and loopy lines quilting on the base.secret garden quilt banner

Thanks! This such a beautiful quilt!

Thank you very much for this pattern, it is beautiful! One question I have is: do you need to enlarge any of the printouts? it seems the wording is small as well as some of the flowers; I'm just trying to picture it.

Thanks :)

The template is in full size. Please check the scaling of your printer, it should be set to "do not scale" or 100% scale. Provided you need a bigger font size, you can always enlarge it. :) Have a nice day.

I would really like to make this quilt, i can't seem to find where it tell you how many of each appliqué design you need to cut out. Am I missing something?

Hi Marylee, due to the lengthy instruction to make up the complete quilt, I have split the pattern into a few posts. Please go to the main Secret Garden quilt pattern to get all the links to the individual applique pattern page, read through the instruction to get the required number of copies you will need to print out for each applique template. Hope this explained. Happy sewing.

Beautiful quilt and so creative. I did the limb and leaves idea on a baby quilt and placed an owl on the branch. I drew mine from scratch and wish I would have seen this before. Would have been so much easier with your pattern pieces and other ideas to go along. Mine was my first applique try and I loved the way it came out but you have really expanded my ideas of what I can create. Thanks so much.

I do hope your daughter has a great deal of fun using this quilt. It is made with such love and is so inspiring as to what can be done with ingenuity, patience and time. Thank you for taking the time to share and I hope to use parts of your ideas in my quilts. Happy sewing, may your needles not break and the thread run smoothly.
