After designing and sharing the Crochet Sloth and Crochet Sheep amigurumi pattern last year, I developed another amigurumi animal crochet pattern using the same fuzzy yarn again. Here it is – a Crochet Amigurumi Bear named Boco.
Designing Boco, noting down details of this amigurumi bear crochet pattern, and perfecting it till it is ready today, I got a little over-excited. The original plan was to make only a standing bear (just like the Amigurumi Cow, MooMoo), but as I went on, the design took control and changed into a bear with a cute potbelly. Did you notice that Boco looks like a hybrid of his peers, the Forever Friend’s Bear and Teddy Bear? Boco, the amigurumi bear crochet pattern is sure the cutest among them.
The prototype was then progressed into a better design that could transform into three different poses by simple stitching of its parts at other positions. So, voila, presenting Boco, the amigurumi bear in “standing”, “sitting”, and “prone” positions. When they are in different positions, they show off different charismatic personalities, which makes them unique. Yes, this is a very versatile amigurumi bear crochet pattern, which makes it super fun to make.
I have wanted to add a cuddly amigurumi bear crochet pattern in my Amigurumi section. Today, I am glad that I finally had it included. Though it takes up a lot of my time (and materials, too) to perfect this pattern, however, the satisfaction is overwhelming. I love this feeling, the feeling of creating and making something I have in mind. Sharing the creation with you on this perfect platform makes me even happier. Craft Passion is where I have been working for about ten years; it is where I journal and showcase all my passion for craft designs and creations.
Now that I have a 3 Boco bears creation, I am really thrilled to share the amigurumi bear crochet pattern with you so you, too, can have a 3 Boco bear gang in your craft room to cheer you up.
Features Of Amigurumi Bear, Boco
Boco, the amigurumi bear, is about 10” (sitting) and 12” (standing and prone) in height or length. Of course, this also depends on your crochet tension and the type of yarns used. For a soft and warm feel to this cuddly crochet bear toy, choose fuzzy yarn so your bear will be super soft and become the perfect cuddle any time of the day. This one pattern can make three different poses, so choose your favorite, pick up your hook and yarns, and let’s begin the bear crochet!
[The free amigurumi bear crochet pattern is written according to USA crochet terms, and I have included pictures to make each step on how to crochet Boco easier to understand and follow.]
Another variation of the amigurumi bear crochet pattern is the Bubblegum, which is an Amigurumi Polar Bear. If you love a simpler bear crochet pattern with white yarn, you will love this all-white bear creation.
A short story about the Amigurumi Bear, Boco…
All 3 Bocos love a good cuddle, especially in the evenings when the day is done and everyone finally gets to relax. They especially love it when their owner, a 7-year-old girl named Candy, comes into the room and gives them tight hugs. They live with her in the bedroom, where she has a special place for them to hang around.
Standing Boco has a favorite spot propped up against the standing night lamp. He loves the way the dim light will shine on him the whole night. Sitting Boco often sits next to him, looking at little Candy as she sleeps the night soundly through. Prone Boco, as his pose shows, loves to flop down on his tummy, and sometimes, because he is so relaxed, can be heard snoring softly as he accidentally falls asleep.
One thing they all have in common is that they all love Candy equally, and are always absolutely thrilled when she takes them into bed with her as well. It’s a very good thing that they are all super cuddly and soft, thanks to the fuzzy yarn they are made with.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE AMIGURUMI BEAR, BOCO
- Crochet the head, body, muzzle, ears, arms, legs, and tail of Amigurumi Bear and stuffed them as instructed in the crochet pattern.
- Assemble the head with Ears and Muzzle.
Place the muzzle to the head, sew around and fill it with stuffing.
a) For a bear with a standing and sitting position, the muzzle is on the front side of the head.
b) For a bear with a prone lying position, the muzzle is on the top of the head.
Add a philtrum to the muzzle by sewing a brown yarn or embroidery floss below the safety nose, pull the yarn, or floss snugly tight to form a dented line.
Install safe eyes above the muzzle, remove some polyester fiberfill in order to put in the backplate. Refill the polyester fiberfill to the head again.
Position the ears and sew around.
Add 2 slanting brows above the eyes.
Top view of the head after the assembly. - Place parts together pin and sew them on.
a) For a bear that is standing, the legs are at the bottom of the body.
b) For a bear that is sitting, the flat side of the body is facing the front which means the rounder side is the backside, the legs are on the belly parts of the body.
Sew the tail at the back of the bear and fill it with stuffing. - For a prone lying bear, the rounder side of the body is the backside of the bear.
Remark: If you have noticed it clearly, I demoed the position of the assembly of a prone lying bear with the standing bear, hence the head part is not the real prone lying bear.
Sew the tail at the back of the bear and fill it with stuffing.
Standing Boco Bear is crochet from “2203” Bear Brown and “2012” Light Khaki Fuzz-A-Fleece Fuzzy Yarn, pair with “0140” Brown and “0103” Light Khaki Ami-Acy Acrylic Yarn.

Sitting Boco Bear is crochet from “2012” Light Khaki and “2013” Dark Khaki Fuzz-A-Fleece Fuzzy Yarn, pair with “0103” Light Khaki Ami-Acy Acrylic Yarn.
Prone Lying Boco Bear is crochet from “2013” Dark Khaki and “2012” Light Khaki Fuzz-A-Fleece Fuzzy Yarn, pair with “0103” Light Khaki Ami-Acy Acrylic Yarn.
Notes
How to Crochet with fuzzy yarn in amigurumi:
When working with fuzzy yarn, it is always easier to pair it up with another strand of acrylic yarn of a similar color. To make an sc stitch with fuzzy yarn, insert hook into the back loop of a stitch, yo with both normal and fuzzy yarns, pull through, then yo with normal yarn only, and pull through. The fuzziest side of the work is actually the wrong-side of amigurumi, hence, you will need to turn the wrong-side out to make it the exterior of your amigurumi project.

Love the bear, I didn't have the fuzzy so I just used a heavy acrylic yarn. I think I will try and put clothing on it also.

My first crochet work in many, many years. I’ve never crocheted anything like this, only straight things like small curtains 40 years ago. I’m very proud of myself that I finished it, even though it was sometimes quite difficult for me, and also in English. I now have a lovely, curly bear for my first grandson! Thank you so much for the nice pattern! Greetings from the Netherlands! Janny

Hi there, this is crocheted on the round but the first step is a slip stitch and chain ten. Is this done in a magic ring?

First of all, it is a slip knot, not a slip stitch. Secondly, this pattern is building an oblong base and not a round base, hence, it begins with a 10-stitch foundation chain.

Hi, this is an amazing creation! I love the tutorial on how to work with the fuzzy yarn! This is the only way I'm able to crochet with this type of yarn. Thank you very much <3
However, the fabric I have got seems to be quite thick. I'm crocheting the back loop only. Also I have used hook size4 to match the yarn I use. So I wonder whether it should be thick and quite firm as well or have I done something differently/incorrect. Thank you. Happy crocheting

Happy to know that you are trying this out for the first time. The crochet piece is thicker and firmer than the usual amigurumi fabric, but it should still be easy to crochet.

I love the bears you created. I didn’t have the exact yarn but used Lion Brand Faux Fleece. It came out so adorable. Thank you for your pattern….really think it should be on Etsy….no Ads! -72°
