Fun Fact:
Did you know that the modern-day image of Santa Claus came from an ad by Coca-Cola in the early 1900s? Before that, different countries had their version of Santa and how he was dressed. But ever since the ad became widely known, Santa has been seen as a jolly white-bearded man with a protruding belly wearing a full red suit! 🎅

Ho ho ho! Here’s our Amigurumi Santa Claus, checking the conditions of his sleigh and making sure everything is in tip-top condition before his flight. The little presents around him are handmade crochet gift boxes! They’re a great tabletop decoration but can also be used as a tree ornament or keychain. You may find the free crochet pattern below.

The theme of our Christmas crafts this year is Christmas dolls. Hence, this crochet Santa Claus is the second pattern we’ve prepared following the Amigurumi Reindeer pattern, the Amigurumi Snowman pattern will be the next one. Even though it has a higher level of difficulty than the crochet reindeer pattern, it’s a fun Amigurumi project. Don’t be taken aback by the tedious pattern; with our detailed instructions and pictures, you’d be cuddling with your Amigurumi Santa Claus in no time!
If you can still remember, we designed and shared an easy free crochet Christmas Gnome pattern last year. Time flies; here is our amigurumi Santa Claus crochet pattern a year later. Click the link for more Christmas craft ideas.

How To Crochet Santa Claus Amigurumi?
Standing at 13″ from head to toe, the Amigurumi Santa Claus is made from a 2.5 mm crochet hook with DK/light worsted weight yarn in red, beige, white, pink, yellow, and black. Of course, you may customize the doll with your preferred yarn color for Santa’s suit. However, if you want your finished doll to look like ours, we’d advise for you to use the same or similar supplies ☺
Absolute beginners with a knowledge of basic crochet stitches like the chain, single crochet, 2sc increase, invisible decrease, half double crochet, double crochet should be able to navigate through this free crochet Santa doll pattern easily. Some other terms you need to be familiar with include skip stitch and chain space stitch, and front loop.

Crochet Santa Claus Doll
Let’s give this precious Santa doll a home! Like many of our free Amigurumi patterns, this crochet Santa Claus consists of several parts to crochet. We will guide you through how to make its head, facial features, body, arms, legs, and accessories.

This Santa dolls’ body is made up of primarily red yarn, which is then turned into Santa’s suit. This can be done by joining the white trim to a specific round and stitch of the body, then adding a crochet belt buckle around Santa’s belly! To complete Santa’s body, crochet the hands and legs, then stuff them with filling before stitching them to the body. The hands are complete with white sleeve cuffs and red sleeves. On the legs, they are constructed in one piece with red pants and black shoes.

Like all the round-shape parts in amigurumi, we begin the crochet with the magic ring method, crochet Santa’s head with beige yarn by following the Santa Claus head crochet pattern. Then, create the nose, eyebrows, and mustache for facial features; remember to leave a long tail for sewing! We used black thread instead of safety eyes to create a half-circle “smiling” shape for the eyes. The thread is also a safer choice if you’re making this Amigurumi Santa Claus for a baby. The glasses are optional, but you may purchase them from our store if you like how it looks.
Up next, we have Santa’s beard, and this is our favorite part of making. The beard is constructed with four layers of ruffles to create a dense and full texture. In short, you will be working on the right side and the wrong side of the crochet piece, creating layers and height mainly with the slip stitch, half double crochet, and chain space. We’ve included a step-by-step picture collage to make it easier for you to follow.

Crochet Santa Hat
Oh, look! Mrs. Claus made a mini hat for her husband to keep him cozy throughout the night. How sweet she is! To replicate the crochet hat, use red yarn and some white thread. You may sew or glue a mini pom-pom to the tip of the hat.

Crochet Santa Gift Sack
Our Amigurumi Santa Claus was so stocked to see his new gift sack. Measuring at a 4″ diameter round base and 6″ high, this brown sack pattern is made with only a single color and a red thread. Apart from using it as decor, you can use it to store hair accessories, earphones, washi tapes, SD cards, mini hand sanitizers, and more.

Crochet Gift Boxes
The materials required to make this gift box crochet pattern include acrylic yarn, metallic gold lace thread yarn, and cardboard. To achieve the same outcome, you’ll need to crochet with 22 sts x 24 rows and a 4″ x 4″ tension gauge. If you want a more significant gift box, use a bigger hook size and thicker yarn. Or, you can add a few more stitches and rows to make it bigger. Not only this size, but you may adapt the method to crochet other sizes of gift boxes. This crochet gift box would be a cute ornament for your Christmas tree.

That’s it for our free crochet patterns! Any guesses on the following free Amigurumi pattern we’ll be sharing? Here’s a hint: this Christmas character has a carrot nose, buttoned chest, and snow-white complexion. You should find it within this crochet pattern. I made Santa last year with blanket yarn and loved his giant size. A friend wants one but normal size. Could you tell me how much worsted yarn of red, white, and beige you used?

I used approximately 1 ball of red, less than half a ball of beige and white each. 1 ball is about 100g of light worsted weight yarn. If you are using worsted, probably you will need more than 1 ball of red, depending on individual yarn brand.

Oh I realized what I was doing wrong. A little Google and I understand chain space. Btw I love all of your patterns! As someone else committed I will be making a Mrs Claus also. These are just so cute!

Hello! I am working on Santa’s beard. When working into the foundation row of each layer the chain stitches do not match up to the number of dc. For example on layer 2 there are 5 chains in the foundation row but on row 1 you are to make dc8 in chain space. If I only have 5 chains where do I make the other 3 dc? Thank you for any help you can give
