With a tassel added to one corner, I turned these crochet eyeglasses appliqués into lovely bookmarks and gifted them to my book-loving friends. They’re practical, playful, and make reading even more fun. And that’s just one idea—there are many more creative ways to use them.
The Inspiration
The inspiration to share this crochet applique pattern came from the Classic Frame featured in my crochet glasses pouch pattern. Unfortunately, the original website (Tangled Happy – now a dating blog) we previously linked to is no longer available. In response to popular demand for the glasses pouch pattern, I recreated and expanded it into a complete eyeglasses appliqué collection featuring five frame shapes.
Alongside the classic, round, and vintage frames, I added two more modern styles—rectangle and square. These chic shapes bring a fresh, playful twist and are perfect for styling up fashion items and accessories. Mix and match them to suit your mood or project.

Where to Use Eyeglasses Appliqués
This set of eyeglasses appliqué crochet patterns is beginner-friendly and quick to make, taking about 15 minutes each. They’re a great little project when you want something fun and satisfying. Here are a few ways to use them:
- Clothes – Sew them onto tops, hats, jackets, or scarves for a playful accent.
- Bookmarks – A pair of glasses as a bookmark? Absolutely! Add a DIY tassel for easy page-finding and extra flair.
- Keychains – Turn the appliqué into a cute charm for your bag or pouch.
- Doll Accessories – Crochet eyeglasses for your amigurumi or stuffed animals to change up their look. Don’t forget to check out our other mini accessories like the mini sun hat, mini sandals, and mini duck buoy!

Adding an eyeglasses appliqué to an eyeglasses pouch is simply a perfect match. I designed this squeeze-pouch crochet pattern years ago, and that’s when I first discovered the original inspiration for this design.

Let’s take a moment to admire the details—I’m in love 😍. The bold red color really makes the eyeglasses pop. It’s such a cheerful accent for bags, outfits, or accessories.
Yarn & Hook Sizes
The size of your eyeglasses appliqué depends on the yarn weight you choose. You can use any yarn from your stash with its recommended hook size, or one hook size smaller. For this pattern, I used lightweight cotton light-worsted yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook, which produced an eyeglasses appliqué about 3 inches wide.
Using finer yarn will give you a smaller appliqué, while bulkier yarn will create a larger one. Feel free to experiment and customize the size for your project.
Stiffening (Optional)
You may want to stiffen the eyeglasses appliqué if you’re making it for doll accessories. Lightly spray it with ironing starch during blocking, or dip it into diluted PVA glue such as Mod Podge or homemade starch. This helps the piece hold its shape and prevents curling.
For other uses, stiffening is optional. If the appliqué already holds its shape and you’re happy with it, feel free to skip this step. Otherwise, a light stiffening will do the trick.

Just look at how beautifully the colors work together! Try bright and vibrant shades for a bold look, or soft pastels for something sweet and gentle. Crochet a full set to keep or share—they make lovely handmade gifts.

More Details On How To Crochet Eyeglasses Appliqué
The following step-by-step instructions demonstrate how to crochet the Rectangle Frame Eyeglasses. This example helps illustrate the construction method used across the different eyeglass shapes.
- Begin the crochet with a slip knot, then make 15 chain stitches.
Slip stitch to the first chain stitch to form a ring.
- Make 10 single crochet stitches onto the ring to start forming the eyeglasses' rim of the left side (Round 1).

- Followed by 7 double crochet stitches.

- Then, make another 13 single crochet stitches, complete the left rim by making a slip stitch onto the first stitch of the round.

- Continue to crochet the right rim by making 18 chain stitches, slip stitch to the 3rd chain stitch to form the foundation ring of the right rim, and a bridge of 2 sts in between.

- Crochet 13 single crochet, 7 double crochet, 10 single crochet into the ring, then slip stitch to the first stitch of the round to complete the right rim.

- Lastly, make 2 sc stitches to the bridge, then slip stitch to the 1st single crochet stitch of the left rim to complete the crochet eyeglasses appliqué,
Fasten and trim the yarn.
- Use a tapestry needle to weave the yarn tail into the stitches and hide it away.

- Block the crochet eyeglasses by moistening them with water, adjusting the shape, then pin them on a fabric-padded surface to hold the shape. Leave it dry overnight.
If you wish to stiffen the eyeglasses appliqué, spray it with fabric stiffener or ironing starch before shaping and pinning it down.
Notes
If you crochet with a bulkier yarn size and a matching hook, you will produce a larger appliqué. Vice versa, a lighter weight will produce a smaller appliqué.

Hi I followed the pic tutorial and the left side is significantly smaller than the right. Is there a misprint? Thanks K

Hi! Thanks for your message. It sounds like the difference in size could be due to tension rather than a misprint. Sometimes, one side may come out smaller if the tension is tighter on that side. I recommend checking your tension as you go, and see if adjusting it helps even out the sides. Let me know if you have any more questions or if you'd like further clarification!
