Whether you’re making it for your tree, a gift topper, or just to feel that cozy handmade vibe, this crochet tree is here to bring the festive spirit. And the best part? It’s beginner-friendly and works up pretty quickly!
A Few Handy Tips Before You Start:
- The pattern consists of 3 parts: The main Christmas Tree amigurumi, The star on the treetop, The snow garland
- The tree is worked from the bottom up, starting with the brown trunk and finishing at the green tip.
- To give the base extra stability, I slipped in a circle of cardboard after Round 13. Totally optional but super helpful if you want it to shape nicely.
- Stuff the tree firmly before finishing off the top—it helps keep the shape neat and plump.
- The white garland is crocheted separately and then spiraled around the tree. I used a hot glue gun to attach it, but you can sew it if you prefer.
- The star is made in two flat pieces—one is glued to the front of the tree tip, and the other to the back—so the tree tip is sandwiched between them, making both sides look the same.
Extras & Embellishments
You can totally customize this tree—add tiny beads as ornaments, sprinkle on glitter, or even little LED lights. I kept it simple here, but there’s lots of room to get creative!

Where to Find the Pattern

Step-by-Step Guide: Amigurumi Christmas Tree
Follow these visual steps along with the pattern card to crochet your festive Christmas tree:

Step 1: Crochet the Tree Trunk
Start with brown yarn and make a magic ring. Crochet in continuous rounds to form a small cylinder for the trunk.

Step 2: Begin the Tree Body
Switch to green yarn. Continue crocheting in rounds, increasing evenly to shape the base of the tree.
(I used yellow yarn as a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch in each round. It’s not part of the Christmas tree and will be removed once the tree is finished.)

Step 3: Trace the Cardboard Base (Optional)
Once you’ve finished Round 8, lay your crochet piece flat and trace around the bottom onto a piece of cardboard. Cut out the circle—this will be your base insert. Set it aside for now; you’ll place it into the tree after Round 13 to help flatten and shape the bottom.

Step 4: Build the Tree Shape
Round 9 is worked in BLO to create a defined edge between the tree body and its flat base. After this round, the stitches gradually decrease to shape the tree into a cone.

Step 5: Add a Cardboard Base (Optional)
After Round 13, place a small circle of cardboard inside the tree. This helps flatten the green base and gives your tree a nice, stable bottom.

Step 6: Stuff and Shape the Tree
Firmly fill the tree with polyester fiberfill as you decrease toward the top. This gives it a full and neat shape.

Step 7: Make a Hanging Loop
After fastening off, leave a long yarn tail at the tip of the tree. Use this tail to create a hanging loop—just thread it through a few stitches at the top and tie a secure knot to form the loop. This makes it easy to hang your Christmas tree ornament on the tree or anywhere you’d like to display it!

Step 8: Make the Snow Garland
Using white yarn, repeat [ch 3, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook] to form a wavy garland. Make it long enough to wrap around the tree.

Step 9: Assemble and Decorate
Spiral the snow garland around the tree and glue or stitch it in place.
Optional: Embellish with beads or sequins for extra sparkle!

Step 10: Make and Attach the Star
Crochet 2 tiny gold stars using a magic ring. Stitch or glue them together and secure the star to the top of the tree.

Adorable little tree! I'm not fond of working with 2 strands, so will probably make a smaller tree with 4-weight by itself (I crochet tightly, so the stuffing won't peek through). Great pattern! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
