Christmas is just around the corner, so we decided to give Hello Kitty, the amigurumi cat, a new angelic outfit. Here is the first piece we make for her, a crochet white ruffle dress. It is a layered ruffle dress at the bottom with a backless haltered neck on the top. This crochet ruffle dress is pretty similar to the red crochet doll dress; if you have missed out on the red dress, click the link for the free crochet pattern. Scroll down for the free crochet pattern of this white ruffle dress.
In human fashion, ruffles can be difficult to style. Too much of it, you’ll end up looking like a walking cake! However, find the right amount of ruffles; they can help add volume to your hips or hideaway any unwanted curves! Just remember that when you’re choosing your ruffles outfit, don’t go overboard. However, if you know how to sew, you can sew this ruffle skirt (free pattern) for a young girl.
Glad that most dolls and stuffed animals don’t have this problem. They will look adorable and beautiful with a dress with ruffles at the bottom.

About the White Ruffle Dress
The total length of our ruffle dress is about 5″ long. Inspired by our Devil dress costume, we came out with this sexy backless haltered neck top with a layered ruffle dress. The top section is essentially the same as the crochet doll dress pattern; this time, we designed the dress by adding ruffles at the bottom for a more angelic look. It would be great as a white evening dress for the kiddos to play doll dressing up with their friends.
About The Materials
To get started, you’ll need to prepare some white acrylic yarn and a small button. I used the same yarn as the crochet cat; it is light worsted (US) / DK (UK) / 8 ply (AUS). The amount of yarn needed is about half a ball of 100 grams, but I didn’t measure it. It is always good to prepare more when you are in doubt. After all, white is a common color that you can use in many crochet projects.
A small button is needed to fasten the dress at the back. The size is 3/8″, which corresponds to the fastener loop in the pattern. Anyway, if you are going to use a different size button for a reason, remember to adjust the loop size when you crochet the chain stitch.
About The Tools
As for the tool, you only need a 2.5mm crochet hook, a needle, and a pair of scissors. As mentioned above, we are using light worsted yarn; the correspondence hook size is 2.5mm. For different yarn weights and crochet tension, you will have to adapt their recommended hook sizes. Please bear in mind that the size of the completed crochet ruffle dress depends on the crochet tension gauge, which we will talk about below.
About The Size
Remember that the finished 5″ long crochet layered ruffle dress involved a tension gauge (please refer to the pattern section for the tension reading). Make sure you try out a small test gauge swatch to check if your tension is close to this pattern. Read here on how to do that.
Varying the tension with different yarn weights and crochet hooks would result in a different final dress piece. If you’re planning to make a smaller or larger dress, you must re-check your gauge and do some simple calculations.
By wearing the dress alone or as part of the Angel Costume for Christmas, the doll will definitely gain a lot of attention from passersby.
