You can crochet this lovely Woven Basket to use as a piece of decor in your home as well as extra storage for small items. There are two different-sized baskets included in the written pattern.
Throughout the years, some of us have developed a habit to leave things on table countertops, and to stuff items into kitchen cabinets or room closets as a convenient way of “unclutter”. What remains unseen is deemed to be clean, right?
I know, there’s never enough storage to keep your home organized. It has been a while since we’ve crafted and written something that can help you with your storage (such as craft room storage ideas, ribbon storage ideas, and make storage drawers), here we are! This pretty crochet Woven Basket is perfect for anyone who would want to store little things in once place.
If you think you’ve seen a similar pattern on Craft Passion before, you’re right! The crochet stitch to make this woven basket crochet pattern is rather similar to the baby blanket I made years ago. The only difference is that with the blanket, we used two rows repeat, however, with this woven basket, we would use three rows repeat. I would recommend you to try to craft this basket first since it is a beginner’s level pattern. Once you have gotten the hang of the basket-weave stitch, you can always move on to crochet the basket-weave blanket.

I’m sure no one likes the idea of having yarns roll around the table when crafting. It does get quite troublesome, especially if it accidentally rolls off onto the floor. As you can tell, I’ve been using the basket to keep my yarns and crafting materials in place. Very convenient indeed!
These crochet baskets were completed just in time to store away the carrot amigurumi that has been growing so healthily in the vegetable patch. With the food inside, Ichigo-chan Bunny Amigurumi would occasionally hop in to chill and to enjoy her tasty afternoon snack. She looks extremely content, doesn’t she?
Look! Even Princess P, the Piggy Amigurumi came to join the party. It got a little crowded with Ichigo-chan and all her carrots inside, but we have prepared a smaller basket for Princess P so that they could enjoy their snack together while being comfortable. Since this pattern comes in two sizes (3.5″ and 5.5″), do practice to make both so that you could use it for different purposes.
Not only are they great for storage, but they are also a wonderful decoration for your home. For those who have been following Craft Passion, you’ve probably seen a lot of my woven crafts, such as; hemp basket, easy basket weaving, drinking straw utensil basket, Halloween pumpkin basket, hexagon basket, intrecciato weave fabric. So, if you have a bohemian style home or just love having woven style home décor, feel free to check out those crafts too!
Finally, what else can you use this for? Many things, actually. You can place them near your home’s entrance to store keys & wallets, in your room to store makeup, socks & underwear, or on tabletops for stationaries & other little items. Oh! Let’s not forget something very important during this pandemic. You could also use it to keep all your hand sanitizers in place. It is the perfect size for it 😉

DETAILS ON HOW TO CROCHET WOVEN BASKET
The pictures shown here are for the small woven basket but you can easily relate them to the large woven basket.
[Pic.1]
This is the base of the basket. Round 1 to 10 for the Small Woven Basket. Round 1 - 15 for the Large Woven Basket
[Pic.2]
Add a slip stitch after finishing the basket base. The starting stitch of the next round is moved by 1 st to the left.
[Pic.3]
Begin the basketweave stitch pattern of the body of the woven basket at Round 10 for the Small Basket and Round 16 for the Large Basket.
From this round onwards, all the chain stitches at the beginning of the round are not counted as a stitch.
[Pic.4]
Crochet a round of Half Double Crochet Stitch (hdc), 54 stitches for Small Basket & 90 stitches for Large basket. Followed by slip stitch (slst) to the top loops of the first half double crochet stitch of the round.
[Pic.5]
At Round 11 (Small Basket) or Round 17 (Large Basket), aa mention before, the 2 chain stitches are not counted as a stitch.
[Pic.6]
To make a Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC), insert the hook through the post of the stitch from the front. Draw the yarn over and do a normal Double Crochet.
[Pic.7]
This is how the FPDC looks like.
[Pic.8]
Follow the pattern (Round 11 for the small basket and Round 17 for the large basket) to make 3 FPDC stitches.
[Pic.9]
On the 4th to 6th stitch of the round, make 3 Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC). It is similar to FPDC, instead of inserting the hook through the post from the front, you insert the hook from the back to make a BPDC stitch.
[Pic.10]
Draw yarn through the post at the back and make a DC stitch to complete a BPDC. Repeat for 3 stitches.
Now you have a set of 3 stitches of FPDC and 3 stitches of BPDC.
[Pic.11]
Repeat the set around until you reach the end of the round.
[Pic.12]
Slip Stitch to the top loops of the first FPDC stitch.
[Pic.13]
Repeat the same for another 2 rounds (3 rounds repeat altogether).
[Pic.14]
On Round 14 (Small Basket) or Round 20 (Large Basket), instead of begins it with 3 stitches of FPDC, we change it to 3 stitches of BPDC, followed by 3 stitches of FPDC. Repeat the same throughout the round.
[Pic.15]
Again, repeat this for a total of 3 rounds.
[Pic.16]
Follow the crochet pattern to complete the body of the basket.
[Pic.17]
Continue to crochet the trim and handles for the basket according to the pattern above.
[Pic.18]
Find a similar size of bottle to block the shape of the basket. You may spray it with fabric starch (or make your own starch) to stiffen the woven basket.
For the large basket, I stiffened it with starch from cornstarch.
[Pic.19]
This is the completed small basket which I have stiffened it with fabric starch.
Notes
You may use different weights of yarn to create various sizes of baskets.
